Do salmon travel together?

A series of studies suggests migrating salmon work together to find their way home —and get lost when there aren’t enough of them to make a decision. This story is over 2 years old. A baby salmon is, often, the product of its parents’ final burst of life.

What do salmon eat when they travel upstream?

Once the salmon start upstream toward the spawning grounds, they do not feed but derive energy from stored fats. The distance salmon travel upstream to spawn varies.

When they have matured they migrate or “run up” freshwater rivers to spawn in what is called the salmon run. Anadromous salmon are Northern Hemisphere fish that spend their ocean phase in either the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean.

These salmon run up rivers on both sides of the ocean. Seven different species of salmon inhabit the Pacific (see table), and these are collectively referred to as Pacific salmon. Five of these species run up rivers on both sides of the Pacific, but two species are found only on the Asian side.

Most salmon species spend some time in the estuary of a river, where the fresh water mixes with the salt water . Here, they gradually get used to life in salty water in preparation for the time they will spend at sea.

Who was salmon in the Bible?

It has been conjectured that Salmon may have been one of the two unnamed spies whose lives were saved by Rahab, when he was doing the work which Caleb had done before him. The mention of Rahab in James 2:25, Hebrews 11:31, shows that her fame had risen at the time when St. Matthew wrote.

(5) Rachab.— The Old Testament records are silent as to the marriage of Salmon with the harlot of Jericho. When they were compiled it was probably thought of as a blot rather than a glory; but the fact may have been preserved in the traditions of the house of David.

Did salmon marry Rahab the harlot?

This deafening silence is, in itself, the strongest proof that no such marriage ever took place. Let us go a step further and assume for a moment that Salmon did indeed marry Rahab the harlot within a year or so of the fall of Jericho — and that Boaz was born a year or so after that.

That Salmon begat Boaz, is affirmed in Ruth 4:21but it is not there said, nor any where else in the Old Testament, as here, that he begat him of Rahab, that is, of Rahab the harlot.
