Smoked salmon dip may not hold up well to freezing. Freezing a smoked fish dip can be a viable method of storing the dip for later use, but the success will depend on the dip ingredients. Typically, smoked fish dips are made with mayonnaise, sour cream or cream cheese. In general, none of these products holds up well to freezing.
Can you eat salmon that’s been frozen for a year?
When properly preserved, frozen salmon will stay completely safe for consumption for about 9 months in the freezer. However, it will usually stay safe to consume after that.
You can freeze it from a food safety standpoint, but there is no guarantee that the sour cream will hold up well—it tends to crystallize (and, the salmon may also, although being smoked would help that). Worth trying rather than wasting it; keep in mind this is an opinion based on our kitchen experience, not on any scientific knowledge.
